An $82,000 weanling colt by Ghostzapper led a variety of offerings at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed and horses of racing age sale on Tuesday, with the sale posting declines overall. Fasig-Tipton reported 148 broodmares and prospects, yearlings, weanlings, and horses in training sold in Tuesday's single-session sale at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, resulting in gross receipts of $1,518,100. At last year's sale, 172 horses brought $3,233,600. Tuesday’s average price was $10,257, a drop of 45 percent from $18,800. The median was $5,000, a change of 50 percent compared to $10,000. The buyback rate improved to 21 percent, compared to 25 percent. In keeping with the high demand seen for weanlings at Kentucky’s mixed sales in November, the Ghostzapper colt purchased by Machmer Hall was the sale-topper by a wide margin. The next-highest price was for the winning broodmare prospect Truancy, sold for $55,000. The Maryland-bred Ghostzapper colt, a May foal, was consigned by Northview Stallion Station, as agent. He is the first foal out of the unraced Exaggerator mare Dance All Day, a half-sister to stakes winners Dancing Duchess and Safe Conduct.
