The international Juddmonte operation founded in 1980 by the late Prince Khalid bin Abdullah has continued on at a high level following his 2021 death, with family members taking leadership roles within the outfit. The racing stable had a particularly strong season in North America in 2023 and is a finalist for another Eclipse Award in the breeder and owner divisions. Juddmonte has previously been voted outstanding owner in 1992, 2003, 2016, and 2017, and outstanding breeder in 1995, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2009. Juddmonte went from strength to strength with a pair of Breeders’ Cup winners and Eclipse Award finalists in 2023, in Elite Power and Idiomatic. Elite Power’s globe-trotting campaign saw him win four graded/group stakes, capped by a repeat score in the Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita. He is a finalist to score a repeat championship as outstanding male sprinter. :: Full list of 2023 Eclipse Awards finalists, including profile stories While Elite Power was purchased as a yearling, with Juddmonte seeking to diversify its American racing string in recent years, Eclipse Award finalist Idiomatic is a Juddmonte homebred, with her great-great granddam being foundation mare Monroe. Idiomatic added to the family’s legacy by winning five graded stakes, including the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita.
