Peter M. Brant has used his eye for bloodstock to build a powerhouse stable via strategic private purchases of diverse foreign runners and via high-end auction moves. His investments paid off in 2018. Brant’s runners earned nine graded stakes victories on the season, second only to Hronis Racing, whose Accelerate accounted for six of its 10 wins. And that’s not even counting the graded runners Brant campaigned in partnership. Brant’s stable was led by Sistercharlie, whom he imported from France last year. The filly won four Grade 1 races in 2018, capped by the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf to make herself an Eclipse Award finalist. In partnership with Stud Vendaval, Brant imported and campaigned Chilean champion Wow Cat, who won the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes and finished second to Monomoy Girl in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Brant’s other top runners in 2018 included Raging Bull, who won 5 of 7 starts, with three graded scores, capped by the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby; unbeaten juvenile Fog of War, who won the Grade 1 Summer Stakes; and Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes winner Quidura. He campaigned Grade 2 Ruffian Stakes winner Pacific Wind in partnership with Sharon Aledia, Ciaglia Racing, and Dominic Savides. :: 2018 Eclipse Finalists: Profiles and photos for all categories
