A colt by Too Much Bling brought $175,000 to top the Texas summer yearling sale Monday at Lone Star Park near Dallas. The auction saw increases in average, median, and gross sales. A total of 176 yearlings sold for gross receipts of $3,219,600, for an average of $18,293. There were 52 horses that did not sell, for a buyback rate of 22.8 percent. The statistics were provided by the Texas Thoroughbred Association, which produces the sale with Lone Star. At the corresponding sale a year ago, 106 yearlings sold for $1.3 million, for an average of $12,714. The gross was up 139 percent from last year, and the average rose 44 percent from 2020. The median for the Monday sale was $10,000, up 96 percent from $5,100 in 2020. “The numbers are almost overwhelming compared to last year, and this sale exceeded even our very high expectations,” Tim Boyce, sales director, said in a press release. “The recent gains in purses and breeding incentives in Texas, along with the strong programs in place in Louisiana and Oklahoma, have helped make this a very powerful regional marketplace. This is truly one of the best sales we’ve ever had in Texas.”  The Too Much Bling colt was purchased by Finisterre Racing. Benchmark Training Center, agent, consigned the accredited Texas-bred. The unnamed colt is out of the winning My Golden Song mare Swifterthantaylor, who has produced a stakes-placed winner in Swift Red Bird. Too Much Bling is a longtime leading sire in the Southwest. Star Redemption, a Louisiana-bred son of Not This Time, brought $120,000 from Al and Bill Ulwelling to rank as the second-highest-priced seller. The colt is out of the Into Mischief mare Shes Into Mischief and was consigned by Clear Creek Stud, agent.
