A Maryland-bred filly by City of Light sold for $165,000 to top Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling sale as the auction posted a relatively steady average and improved median. Fasig-Tipton reported 181 yearlings sold in this single-session auction at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium for gross receipts of $4,307,700, including private sales reported as of 7:30 p.m. Last year's sale was two sessions, with 290 yearlings ultimately changing hands for $7,082,000. Tuesday’s average price was $23,799, dipping just 3 percent from a cumulative $24,421 last year. The median was $15,000 – not only up 25 percent from $12,000 last year, but checking in tied for the third highest in sale history. The buyback rate was 28 percent, compared to 21 percent last year. The sale-topping filly was purchased by LC Racing LLC from the consignment of Becky Davis, as agent. The filly is out of the winning Not For Love mare How My Heart Works, making her a half-sister to last year’s sale topper, a $205,000 Nyquist colt purchased by Thorostock LLC and Seth Morris Thoroughbreds. The colt is not yet named. How My Heart Works is the dam of Grade 3-placed stakes winner Monday Morning Qb and Group 3-placed Asawer. The mare is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Awesome Flower, dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Cyberknife.
