Post | Horse/ Best Beyer | Trainer/ Jockey | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Seize the Grey 100 | D. Wayne Lukas Jaime Torres | 8-1 | ||||
Brad Free: Preakness upset winner expected to contest pace in Belmont, but unlikely for another easy lead vs. front-runner Dornoch. | |||||||
David Aragona: Figures to go forward again from rail; set legitimate pace in the Preakness, but must prove it wasn't a wet-track fluke. | |||||||
2 | Resilience 90 | Bill Mott Junior Alvarado | 10-1 | ||||
BF: Dubious at 1 1/4m, loomed brief threat in stretch Ky. Derby before losing punch; tempting off big final workout | |||||||
DA: Avoided traffic trouble in the Derby, making a wide, early move; has worked well since, but still has to get a little faster. | |||||||
3 | Mystik Dan 101 | Ken McPeek Brian Hernandez, Jr. | 5-1 | ||||
BF: Derby winner/Preakness runner-up will be only horse to run all three legs of Triple Crown; durable colt always shows up. | |||||||
DA: Must respect his recent consistency, but can he produce another peak performance on such an aggressive schedule? | |||||||
4 | The Wine Steward 92 | Mike Maker Manny Franco | 15-1 | ||||
BF: Reliable pace-presser one-two every start, G1-placed juvenile making third start of season, fresh-horse upset candidate. | |||||||
DA: It's unclear how much he's progressed form his 2YO season, and concerned this distance may be outside his ideal range. | |||||||
5 | Antiquarian 92 | Todd Pletcher John Velazquez | 12-1 | ||||
BF: Workmanlike victory in G3 Peter Pan gives him license to try tougher, uncertain if lightly raced pace-presser good enough. | |||||||
DA: Unclear how strong a race this year's Peter Pan was, but this colt has been steadily improving, should handle distance. | |||||||
6 | Dornoch 91 | Danny Gargan Luis Saez | 15-1 | ||||
BF: Need-the-lead colt lost chance in Ky. Derby when shuffled from rail; front-runner still earning same modest figs as last year. | |||||||
DA: Got a nightmare trip in the Derby, encountering trouble throughout; just still not sure he's progressed enough this year. | |||||||
7 | Protective 89 | Todd Pletcher Tyler Gaffalione | 20-1 | ||||
BF: Graded stakes-placed maiden has never earned Grade 1-caliber figure; enters off back-to-back thirds in modest stakes. | |||||||
DA: Had to briefly wait for room in upper stretch of Peter Pan, and finished okay; still a tough spot for this four-start maiden. | |||||||
8 | Honor Marie 96 | Whit Beckman Florent Geroux | 12-1 | ||||
BF: Annihilated at start in Derby, reportedly thrived since better-than-looked eighth; late-runner merits longshot consideration. | |||||||
DA: Never had a chance to get into any kind of rhythm in the Derby; has a chance to rebound here, especially if pace develops. | |||||||
9 | Sierra Leone 99 | Chad Brown Flavien Prat | 9-5 | ||||
BF: Raw ability unquestioned, mental immaturity cost him when second Ky. Derby; likely Belmont chalk tries new bit, new rider. | |||||||
DA: The likely favorite doesn't exactly tower over this group on figs, but he is consistent; just has to run straight in the lane. | |||||||
10 | Mindframe 103 | Todd Pletcher Irad Ortiz Jr. | 7-2 | ||||
BF: Daunting class challenge jumping to 1 1/4m G1 off blowouts MSW and N1X; ran fast both starts, sky's the limit. | |||||||
DA: Highly ambitious spot for stakes debut, but he's looked like something special; outside draw will keep him out of trouble. | |||||||

The Belmont Stakes heads a spectacular schedule and weekend of horse racing at Belmont Park, with three stakes races held on the Thursday of Belmont week, and another five races held on Friday. On the Belmont Stakes undercard are horse races such as the $1 million Metropolitan Handicap (Met Mile), the $750,000 Manhattan, the $500,000 Acorn, and the $500,000 Ogden Phipps - all are Grade 1 events.
