Horses to Watch

The Horses to Watch feature from DRF Simulcast Daily will be posted every Thursday during the Del Mar meet.

Dave in Dixie

Trainer: John Sadler
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 29, 7th
Finish: 1st by 3-1/4

This 2-year-old colt burst onto the scene with a dazzling debut victory. The long-striding son of Dixie Union was just getting warmed up at six furlongs, and has two turns written all over him. Future graded stakes winner.

Vegas Wedding

Trainer: Lisa Lewis
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 29, 2nd
Finish: 3rd by 1

This turf sprinter found five furlongs too short, but finished well. Should win turf spring at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meet; N1X.

Rocket Kitty

Trainer: Jerry Hollendorfer
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 26, 5th
Finish: 6th by 5-1/2

This $20,000 claiming filly was eliminated when she broke slow. Claimed off the throw-out race by Jack Carava, she can improve next out.

Minute Limit (IRE)

Trainer: John Sadler
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 27, 7th
Finish: 1st by 1-3/4

This 3-year-old filly underwent throat surgery since raced, and returned with smashing win in first-level allowance. Future stakes filly, for sure.

Sidney's Candy

Trainer: John Sadler
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 22, 7th
Finish: 1st by 4

This second-time starter crushed his maiden rivals in track-record 1:02.71, and galloped out far in front of the field. This 2-year-old son of Candy Ride is the real deal.

Peacenik

Trainer: Wesley Ward
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 21, 4th
Finish: 6th by 9

This shipper from Calder was shuffled back on the turn, lost position, but then finished with run as the odds-on favorite in maiden-40 starter for 2-year-old filles. Next time, same level, hopefully with an outside post.

Scare Package

Trainer: Ed Moger, Jr.
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 19, 9th
Finish: 7th by 9-1/2

This first-time starter finished seventh in an inconclusive debut. He was never asked for run at any stage of the race, and merely went through the motions in a total schooling exercise. Possible upsetter next time in maiden-32 for 2-year-olds.

Wada Falls

Trainer: Jeff Mullins
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 19, 5th
Finish: 5th by 5-1/4

This low-level filly lost by more than four lengths, but she was best. She steadied at the break, was away slow, looped wide into the lane and lost her punch. Can win next time in restricted claimer.

Viscount

Trainer: Bob Baffert
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 22, 6th
Finish: 2nd by Neck

This improving allowance horse was compromised by strategy. Rated to last while leaders crawled up front, tried to split horses in lane, but the winner already had the jump. The one to beat next time in N1X.

Malibu Song

Trainer: Julio Canani
Last Race: Del Mar Aug 22, 1st
Finish: 4th by 5

This well-hyped 3-year-old maiden surrendered without a visible alibi as the odds-on favorite, but was coughing up mucous after the race and may have been sick. Can rebound this fall during Oak Tree meet at Santa Anita. Remains well regarded.
